Loft in Vilnius8 photos
DO Architects studio designed the interior of a 142 square meter apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania. Once abandoned warehouse in a vibrant area of the city was transformed into a multi-unit building with an architectural studio office on the first floor, demonstrating how undervalued architecture can inspire street revitalization. Instead of demolishing the building, architects chose to transform it, giving the second floor apartments private entrances and terraces for relaxation. The upper level features a large loft living space offering access to a rooftop terrace.
The entrance door opens into an inner courtyard, and next to the hallway is a shared living area that serves as the heart of the loft. The living room, kitchen and dining area form an open space that becomes cohesive and cozy thanks to the accumulation of objects and textures. The inner courtyard with a rooftop terrace exit extends the day zone. At the far end of the apartment are the bedrooms, compact in size reflecting their primary function of rest.
The dominant industrial style in the interior is softened by a wooden wall, bringing warmth to the home against the backdrop of stainless steel, glass and concrete. Precious works of art are an important part of the project and are placed in well-chosen spots throughout the apartment, constantly connecting residents with art. The white-washed brick wall at the end of the day zone slightly separates the living room from the home office and serves as a neutral backdrop for displaying paintings.
