Apartment with area of 150 sq. meters in Kaunas
Architects from Hito.lt have designed the interior of an apartment with a total area of 150 square meters in Kaunas, Lithuania. The family of five decided to move from a country residence to an apartment in the old town, which inspired the designers. They believe that what matters most in a home is not material possessions but people with their stories and experiences. Therefore, the living space was created with a focus on minimalism in every aspect, from style to the number of physical items.
The layout emphasizes symmetry and neatness. All living rooms surround the staircase opening, as if turning life in a circle. The apartment includes three children's rooms, one main bedroom, a combined kitchen and living room, two bathrooms, and a storage room.
The interior is dominated by monochromatic colors and natural materials such as metal, wool, wood, and concrete. There is a lot of black color that creates a sense of depth, balances the composition, and absorbs certain details, dividing the gray space into various zones and forming a spatial structure.
The living area features two distinct artistic works. The female portrait by Gia Ram complements the rough and smooth concrete walls. The work by Tadao Cern with clear geometry fits into the space with strict forms and elements. Both pieces highlight two aspects of the interior – free, bold, and expressive, as well as structured, delicate, geometric, minimal, and hypnotic.
