A complex renovation project of an apartment by Roberto Di Donato Architecture studio has been completed in a building from the early 20th century in the heart of Valencia, Spain.
Spaces flow smoothly from one area to another, highlighting the differences between night and day zones through two tall wooden details. These custom-made structures serve as wardrobes for the bedroom and can provide up to three door options for varying levels of privacy.
The ceiling height became a particularly valuable element during the apartment's renovation. The roof was restored and fully preserved, with no new design element touching it, expressing respect for the past while allowing the full sense of the apartment's volume to be felt.
Distinctive and outstanding design qualities are characterized by the placement of its components. All new structural elements were introduced with a clear and defined direction in space. Wooden wardrobes, white floor-to-ceiling curtains, and a tall console staircase emphasize the verticality of the space. In turn, the long kitchen countertop reinforces the horizontal dimension.
The project successfully used the language of modern design, adding only what was essential and strengthening the character of the original place. All traces left by time here were carefully preserved to give the inhabitants a sense of unity with the building's history.
