Historic Arches and Muntins in New Apartment in Barcelona
Apartment presented by CaSA - Colombo and Serboli Architecture is located in Barcelona, Spain. The historic building from the 13th century is situated in the oldest part of the city, in the area known as Born. The architects’ task was to transform this property into a new expressive space for a young Italian fashion professional.
Full-height furniture in deep dark blue was designed for storing clothes, accessories and sports equipment, as well as other household items. Lacquered panels mask the double door leading from the entrance area to the bedroom, preserving its peaceful atmosphere. A large door opening over 2.5 meters high connects the living room with the entrance, hiding the wardrobe doors on both sides.
Spacious living room and kitchen are abundantly lit through two large balcony windows, their original wooden finish retains motifs of historic muntins. Suspended ceilings were removed, revealing Catalan arches and wooden ceiling beams painted white.
The open-plan kitchen features a round countertop with sink and dishwasher. The dining area is visually enhanced by a line of three spherical light fixtures with brass details, suspended on burgundy cords. Kitchen cabinets in light gray are adorned with vintage brass handles.
As requested by the client, a guest bathroom was provided independently from the owner’s bedroom.
