Two-Level Apartment in Madrid
Two architectural firms — Wespi de Meuron Romeo Architects and ÀBATON — worked on the project of a 250-square-meter apartment in Madrid, Spain.
On the upper, seventh floor of the building was a attic that had previously been unused but held great potential, which designers realized to the fullest extent by creating a main living room with dining area and kitchen, plus access to a terrace.
The upper floor is designed as a completely contemporary, minimalist interior without any traditional elements. The sloped roof and small openings created a special atmosphere in this space, at the same time making it inconvenient for use. Architects built several additional vertical and slanted walls, forming a complex spatial configuration with deep window embrasures and white surfaces that reflect and distribute natural light throughout the room.
To stylistically connect these two levels, the entrance hall, corridor and owner's bedroom located downstairs were also designed in a modern minimalist style. White color is used throughout the interior to create unity — for walls, ceiling, doors and floors (except for a few rooms on the lower floor).
