Apartment in Eixample
Located in Eixample, the traditional neighborhood of Barcelona, Spain, this apartment is marked by many typical features characteristic of old Barcelona residences: narrow layout with frequent division into small rooms, tiled floors, wall and ceiling moldings. The YLAB Arquitectos project team took into account the client's wishes to preserve some traditional details while introducing modern elements with rough materials and rich textures, as well as making the apartment more spacious.
The cubic volume of the kitchen clad in black Buchardestone granite adjoins the white corridor decorated with classical moldings. Positioned between these two spaces, a light oak island softens the contrast.
A massive monolithic element made of dark gray cast iron, hiding household appliances, separates the kitchen from the dining room with high ceilings and white cornices.
The long corridor of the private zone is clad in graphite-colored wooden panels, matching the kitchen's color palette. In the owners' bedroom, wardrobes and bed base are made from the same dark wood.
The floor retains some traditional features, forming "carpets" of patterned tiles surrounded by continuous atlas-white covering, thus highlighting the stylistic contrast.
