Apartment of a Fashionable Producer in Helsinki20 photos
Laura Seppänen Agency designed the interior of a 72-square-meter apartment in the center of Helsinki, Finland, for a well-known musical producer and composer Henk Solo. The architects were inspired not only by his existing works but also aimed to create a space that encourages its owner to produce new works.
The symmetrical layout of the apartment becomes evident as soon as one enters. Three doorways lead from the hallway with white wooden flooring into the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. Although each room is unique, they are all united by a clean, monochromatic color scheme and rich play of textural elements—from the glossy copper coffee table in the living room to rough handwoven carpets and massive concrete details.
The living room is a perfect illustration of this principle; it sets the tone for the entire apartment. Custom-made works by Finnish abstract artist Tania Mäki are displayed on white wall surfaces, dramatically contrasting with the exposed brick masonry nearby. Meanwhile, the heavy concrete dining table adds significance to the space, sitting next to woven leather chairs and a light wooden shelf. The main highlight of the interior is the owner's black piano, which Finnish graffiti artist Otto Mäki transformed into an unusual and striking look by painting it with dozens of 'paper airplanes' gliding across the instrument's surface.
