American architectural firm hu mn lab,+inc. presented the design of a manor in Los Angeles, California. The Middle House family residence is located on top of a hill and is close to the ocean and the city's business district. Panoramic views of the surroundings, as well as interesting neighboring properties including 1940s–50s-era homes and modern villas, influenced the design of the house.
On a total area of 492 square meters, the house features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and an open-plan living area. One of the bedrooms is located on the lower level with a separate entrance, intended for use as an office, guest room, or staff quarters. The four-meter wall in the living area opens fully, connecting the interior with the exterior. The palette of materials used is limited to a few high-quality products, including cedar wood, concrete, marble, and natural stone. Glass partitions, fireplaces, and landscaping have been added to the second-floor terrace and the rooftop observation deck.
