Young Designer's Apartment in Kyiv29 photos
Probably, such should be the first own apartment of a young designer who had already completed dozens of projects: clean, white, atmospheric – like a canvas. Designer Vitya Golubeva fulfilled her small dream – she got an apartment in her beloved Kyiv. However, fate had it that soon after, she had to move to Moscow with her husband. "However," says Vitya, "both Kyiv and this apartment hold a special place in her heart and evoke special feelings."
The apartment immediately reveals its owner is someone from the world of design and architecture – on the walls hang authentic drawings of the Kyiv Hippodrome, as well as sketches by Vitya herself. (By the way, it was precisely the redesign of the Hippodrome that Vitya defended as her graduation thesis).
In this object, the designer fulfilled a childhood dream – floor-to-ceiling windows. Nothing had to be broken for that – such windows were already installed in the building from the beginning. The architecture of the house, inspired by Dutch forms, dictated the interior – unpretentious, European, made with natural materials. The dominant color is white – an ideal base for creating a decor mood.
The console in the hallway is another detail with a story: Vitya herself constructed it during renovation as a temporary table – she used items found in the storage room: four legs were no longer needed on an old project, and the tabletop was a sample of tile for one of her projects. The structure was joined with scraps of baseboards. Vitya got so used to this console that she decided not to part with it.
The apartment, as something very personal, is filled with coincidences: for example, the wooden shelves in the living room were ordered before her trip to Thailand, and when she returned to Kyiv, Vitya received an order, and on the packaging she saw nothing other than a label "Made in Thailand," and a stamp of exactly that city where she spent several days. The romantic story of how the metal hand was acquired is also connected to Thailand – it teleported from Thailand to Vitya's Kyiv apartment during her trip to the Carpathians. Or the natural parquet on the floor named exactly after the places where her husband's ancestors came from, which also helped to support that Thai hand mentioned above.
