Modern Design of Historical Apartment in Vienna12 photos

Design studio Destilat restored the H+M apartments in Vienna, Austria. The residence, covering 130 square meters, is located in a classical old building constructed at the turn of the centuries. The client sought an apartment that would remain as close as possible to its original design, with valuable details preserved from previous renovations and a good opportunity to restore historical beauty by blending it with modern decor.

Architects adapted the original layout of the apartments to make it more functional and aligned with contemporary lifestyle. The kitchen became part of the living room area, thus freeing up additional space for a children's room that opens into an inner courtyard. Instead of a hallway with a bathroom and wardrobe, architects designed a luxurious spa bathroom with a sauna, separated from the corridor only by a curtain rather than a solid wall. The master bedroom was also enlarged by incorporating an adjacent room, where a wardrobe was placed behind a thick curtain. The original tiles, preserved in some parts of the apartments, add more color to the residence. Furniture in the apartment comes from Destilat's portfolio or was custom-designed by the client, while the lighting design was created by his spouse.
