Family Apartment in Almaty by Akka Interiors Studio: A Light-Filled Home Inspired by Nature and Culture
In Almaty, Kazakhstan, Akka Interiors Studio, led by Aijana Kuniayeva and Aida Koskumbaeva, designed a spacious family apartment reflecting cultural heritage, modern functionality, and a deep connection to nature. Created for a young, energetic woman passionate about travel and devoted to her homeland, the apartment combines individuality with a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere.
Merging Two Homes into One
The project began with the bold decision to combine two separate apartments into one expansive living space. Surrounded by windows, the new layout allows each room to be filled with natural light, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. This spatial flexibility enables the design to adapt to changing family needs while maintaining comfort, practicality, and elegance.
The Heart of the Home
At the center of the apartment are the kitchen and living room, designed as distinct yet interconnected zones.
Kitchen: Instead of a traditional dining table, a social bar counter serves as the central point of the space, encouraging informal gatherings and family conversations.
Living Room: A large corner sofa set, soft armchairs, and a stylish bio-fireplace create a cozy ambiance. Large windows offer an impressive view of the Almaty mountains, while sleek glass cabinets and a hidden TV behind sliding panels maintain a clean, modern look.
Personal Spaces with Character
The master bedroom is presented as a peaceful sanctuary, including a spacious walk-in closet, a private bathroom, and a cozy workspace. Its large windows provide an abundance of natural light and uninterrupted mountain views.
Each teenager's bedroom reflects individual character:
Boy's Room embodies a structured, masculine style.
Girls' Rooms reflect a softer, feminine aesthetic.
Despite their differences, all bedrooms are unified by functional design elements such as personal wardrobes, ensuring both individuality and consistency within the overall scheme.
Functionality and Family Life
With four bathrooms and a dedicated laundry/household room, the apartment is designed for efficiency and everyday family life. Storage and movement are planned with comfort and elegance in mind.
Philosophy of Harmony
For Kuniayeva and Koskumbaeva, the goal was not to overload the space with decoration but to create a calm and harmonious home. Inspired by nature and the surrounding environment, the apartment becomes a balanced sanctuary — modern, welcoming, and deeply rooted in its location.
The family apartment in Almaty by Akka Interiors Studio demonstrates how carefully planned interior design can merge cultural identity, natural inspiration, and modern life. Thanks to smart spatial planning, an abundance of natural light, and a balance between individuality and unity, the project offers an elegant yet cozy home that adapts to the rhythms of family life.
