Immersion in Hughes Marino's Favorite Office Spaces
Hughes Marino has worked with tenants from the Fortune 500 and local brands. The company's passion for detail allows its employees to understand office spaces like no one else, and the firm often features offices they believe get everything right on their blog at Hughesmarino.com. The company's leaders are always looking for the next inspiring office space.
From modern open layouts to tech-forward updates — here are five offices in the U.S. that Hughes Marino considers worthy of attention.

Tangram Interiors
Specializing in creating innovative and collaborative workspaces, Tangram Interiors includes star brands such as Hulu, Kawasaki, and Ticketmaster on its roster. The company constantly experiments with new designs, and its Newport Beach, California office caught the attention of a Hughes Marino employee.
"There are personal zones in their offices where you can do individual and focused work," explains Hughes Marino's senior vice president Will Tobber.
"These zones can be represented as spacious closed offices with a combination of solid and glass walls. There are also social zones where you can rest and interact."
Tobber says the progressive company also offers private meeting rooms with technological capabilities to improve virtual meeting details for remote guests and employees.
A Hughes Marino employee considers this a reasonable solution, as the post-pandemic shift continues to draw more people back into offices.
Nine Dot Arts
Nine Dot Arts from Denver, a powerful player in art consulting, offers a vibrant work environment reflecting its creative atmosphere according to Hughes Marino's vice president Mark Feldman. This unique organization renovated a 1950s industrial warehouse with high open ceilings, kitchens, and relaxation zones both inside and outside, sound-absorbing rooms for Zoom meetings, and touchless water fountains. The office was also built with pet-friendly features so furry friends can come inside.
The office, staying true to its original roots with concrete floors and visible ductwork throughout the building, also offers a client area that serves as a community gathering place.
"We love showcasing spaces that visually reflect company culture and purpose," says Feldman. "With Nine Dot Arts in Denver, we found the perfect subject."
Mindgruve
Marketing agency Mindgruve from San Diego caught the attention of Hughes Marino's team with its fantasy office.
"Mindgruve really created an environment where employees can develop amazing work for their clients and find the perfect place to nurture creativity," says Hughes Marino director and senior vice president Stu Hughes-Group. Representing clients from Procter & Gamble to Sony, Mindgruve is housed in a historic building that was once the original Showley Brothers candy factory and later became home to Pacific Parachute Co. Adding wooden and leather accents to the stone walls, a modern kitchen, and a green wall in living format creates a feeling of home away from home according to Hughes Marino's leader.
Basic American Foods
Founded in 1933, Basic American Foods owns national brands such as Hungry Jack and Idaho Spuds.
"This is a unique space, and employees eagerly await the opportunity to work in a bright, functional, efficient, and collaborative ecosystem," says Hughes Marino deputy vice president Matt Gest.
When the offices in Walnut Creek, California needed a renovation in 2017, they added a test kitchen that also serves as a place for collaborative meetings and dining.
Gest adds that the office represents a balanced combination of showroom space, conference rooms, and technology.
Substantial
Hughes Marino vice president Derek Pedersen finds the Substantial offices in Seattle inspiring. Built in 1925, these full-service digital product offices are located in a pet-friendly building with a covered terrace. "This is possibly one of the most unique and creative spaces we've ever seen," says Pedersen about the building that was once a Chrysler dealer center. "They also offer the opportunity to sublet part of the office to other teams." The offices feature industrial design with an open kitchen and numerous wooden and steel accents. According to officesnapshots.com, the 14,000 square foot building combines exposed brick walls, warehouse-style windows, and large steel and glass doors. Incoming guests are immediately greeted by a 20-foot individual reception desk.
Vistage
Hughes Marino senior vice president Scott Ginsburg and senior client operations manager Scott Averson are impressed by Vistage's modern headquarters and its vibrant yet calming atmosphere. Described as "the world’s largest organization for coaching CEOs and advisors to small and medium-sized businesses," Vistage's main corporate base in San Diego combines cool green, blue, and purple tones with motivational quotes throughout the facility.
With ocean and valley views, natural lighting is another benefit of this place, according to Ginsburg and Averson. "Vistage truly created a space for their team that embodies their philosophy and approach to helping businesses grow," they say.
