67EM House by ONG&ONG

Built on a flat yet elongated plot in the eastern coast area of Singapore, the 67EM House presented several challenges for the architectural team. The west-south facade meant that any windows on its face required a form of solar breeze screen to deflect the scorching afternoon sun. To overcome this, designers chose to place a pool and frangipani at the center of the house, creating a courtyard-style focal point while effectively turning views inward. The pool features a bridge connecting the living room to the dining area with separate dry and wet kitchens, as well as service areas at the back.

Originally a semi-detached house from the 1960s, the plot was deemed wide enough for a fully detached building. This allowed rich vegetation to be placed around the perimeter, offering owners a degree of privacy while large floor-to-ceiling glass panels create a feeling of sanctuary in the garden, ideal for hosting big parties. The sense of lightness is felt immediately upon entering the house due to excellent cross-ventilation. Order and symmetry are also key in design, with key furniture pieces arranged along the central line of sight and flanked by doorways on both sides.

The first floor features white marble flooring contrasting with matte black steel frames and columns. Bathroom fixtures by Gessi are installed in a custom-fitted matte black nickel finish, lending refined elegance against Calacutta marble tiles. Some walls are left in a concrete brut style but with exposed concrete receiving a special SKK finish, preserving the textured look of wooden forms.

As you climb the stairs, the floor changes to grooved tiger wood planks indicating a transition into more private areas of the house. The second level includes a guest bedroom and bathroom with a solar tube for natural lighting in front, plus hidden sliding doors opening two multi-functional spaces used as offices. Behind them lies a stunning glass bridge across the courtyard leading to the main bedroom—a double space with a curved ceiling. Behind another pair of hidden doors is a spacious walk-in wardrobe with Fenix laminate doors and a glass skylight above, plus the main bathroom featuring two sinks.

The third level includes another bedroom with its own rooftop terrace, perfectly suited for delightful evening breezes.

The house took two years to build from planning to completion and includes automatic blinds, lighting, sound system, and security.
