A children's bed can be sold separately or as part of a complete furniture set. In addition, accessories or furniture items may be offered along with the beds themselves or separately to make their use safer and more comfortable. A good example of this is children's beds with side rails.

Side rails are found on various furniture items: cribs for toddlers, sofa-beds, foldable beds, and two-tier beds, among others. They may be a non-removable part of the structure or can be disassembled. However, a standard side rail may not always be sufficient: many children sleep very actively, if not to say restlessly. Therefore, an additional barrier may be required to prevent the child from falling off their sleeping place during sleep. This is especially important for the second level of a two-tier bed or a loft bed. For this purpose, separate barriers of various sizes are provided, which are mounted onto the side rail of the bed. These are mostly made from wood, metal or fabric and serve as an additional safety measure that is not without decorative appeal.

A children's bed with drawers is an excellent alternative to a separate bed and wardrobe or chest of drawers. Depending on size, such drawers are used for storing bulky items, bedding, clothes, toys and various small things. There are many options for the location and application of these storage spaces.

  • Slide-out drawers can be a direct part of the bed and located under its base, placed on one or both sides of the sleeping area, or arranged in other variations depending on the type of bed.
  • Sometimes a slide-out drawer can hide an additional bed.
  • In beds with a lifting mechanism, the drawer does not extend out, but all space from the frame under the mattress to the floor can be used for storage.
  • For beds where no storage drawers are provided and there is space under the bed, these can be purchased separately.

At the same time, there is never enough children's belongings, so combining a bed, even one equipped with drawers, with a wardrobe is quite appropriate. These two furniture items can coexist in various ways.

    • A children's bed-transformer set usually includes a chest or wardrobe, which is installed next to the teenager's bed near the children's bed area and can later be removed and placed independently.
    • Behind a solid headboard of a children's bed, the best place for a wardrobe that matches its size; on the opposite side can be placed a low wardrobe or chest.
    • There is a wardrobe-bed, where the upper part has slide-out drawers and the main part hides a folding bed.
    • Some platform-type beds are designed as a base, with most of its area intended for placing the mattress and the rest being an upper structure with many compartments.

A special type of children's beds is two-tier beds with a slide. However, the term 'slide' may refer to two very different furniture items.

    • A slide bed is a two-level bed where the staircase to the second floor resembles a cabinet: each step is a slide-out drawer for storage.
    • A bed with a slide is a two-tier bed where the child can not only descend from the second level via a ladder but also slide down a regular children's slide.

One of the most effective combinations that help save space is a loft bed with a workspace. Here, again, there are two options:

    • If the child is alone, all space under the sleeping area can be designated for a workspace or workspace and wardrobe.
    • If there are two children in the family, another bed with a table can be placed perpendicular to the loft bed.

There are many options for children's rooms. Sometimes it is more cost-effective to buy a complete furniture set, while at other times a bed and other furniture items are purchased individually. However, the combinations listed above are undoubtedly more practical than a regular furniture arrangement.
