Not so long ago, the television was the main element of the living room. Well, it was hard not to be so. TVs were simply huge and boxy, so they required a lot of central space in the living room. Fortunately, technology has advanced quite a bit and TVs have become thinner, lighter, but at the same time larger. It's hard to imagine a modern living room without a properly sized television, so we thought it would be great to share with you 3 ways to place a TV in the living room.

Before you buy a new television, if you don't have one yet, you need to take several measurements to determine the size limitation of your new TV. Just because you have a large empty wall doesn't mean you should choose the largest television that will fit on it. At what distance will you be sitting from the TV? For screens up to 40 inches diagonal, you should sit at least 4 feet away from it, with a maximum distance of around 9 feet. Anything larger and the seating distance increases.

1. Wall Mounting

It's hard to find a modern home where the TV isn't mounted on the wall, and there's a good reason for this. Mounting the TV on the wall allows you to place it higher, making watching more comfortable when sitting on the sofa. You'll need a wall mount for your TV to securely place it on the wall, but you also need to find a way to run all cables to the TV without exposing them. This can be done by embedding cable channels in drywall before painting or drilling holes for cables where the TV is intended to be mounted. This is an ideal way to place a TV if you have enough space between the wall and the seating area.

2. Placement in the Corner

When your living room doesn't allow mounting a TV on the wall or if there's not enough space between the wall and the sofa, you can consider placing the TV in a corner of the room. This creates slightly more diagonal space, allowing for good viewing distance. You can still mount it on the wall in the corner or place the TV on top of a console table.

3. Integration into Furniture

If you have plans for custom furniture for the living room, you'll get the opportunity to design furniture in a way that can accommodate a TV and make it part of the design. This is probably the most expensive option, but when done correctly, it can look as though the TV was always meant to be there and when not in use, it simply looks like part of the furniture.
