KNAUF Rotband plaster is widely used in interior finishing. It can be manually applied to ceilings and walls with concrete or brick substrates, as well as surfaces with cement plaster. It can also be used on surfaces made of polystyrene and particle board (ЦСП). KNAUF Rotband should only be used in indoor environments with normal humidity levels. This type of plaster is recommended for use on smooth concrete wall and ceiling surfaces.

Technical Specifications:

  • Wall plastering with Rotband is allowed in a layer of at least 5 mm.
  • Maximum aggregate size − 1.2 mm.
  • KNAUF Rotband plaster, which requires approximately 8.5 kg/m², dries in about 7 days.
  • From 100 kg of raw material, we can obtain up to 120 liters of ready-to-use mixture.

    Additionally, KNAUF Rotband plaster can be used for finishing surfaces in kitchens and bathrooms. After plastering, the surface can be painted or wallpapered without the need for additional spackling. Furthermore, Rotband can be used in making decorative elements and for restoration work.

    Materials used in the work:

    • KNAUF Rotband plaster − 8.5 kg/m²;
    • KNAUF Betokontakt primer − 0.3 kg/m²;
    • KNAUF Grundirmitel primer − 0.1 kg/m²;
    • Planes (planning profile), quantity depends on the room characteristics and the length of the rule (beginners will find it easier to work with a 1.5 m rule);
    • Angular profile for plastering (quantity depends on the number of surface corners).

    Work tools:

    • Trowel (master trowel);
    • Angular spatula (for external/internal corners);
    • Plaster comb;
    • Hard sponge scraper;
    • Mixer;
    • Ruler;
    • Plaster hawk;
    • Spatula (length from 50 to 90 cm);
    • Float;
    • Mixing container (recommended volume 90 liters).

    Short Instructions for Working with the Material

    Before starting work:

    The temperature of the base on which finishing work is performed must be at least +5°C.

    The base should be cleaned of dust, debris and flaking (from concrete, remove formwork lubricant residues separately).

    IMPORTANT! When working with surfaces that absorb moisture strongly, the surface should be pre-primered using KNAUF Grundirmitel primer (diluted with tap water in a ratio of 1 part primer to 3 parts water). When working with surfaces that absorb moisture weakly, such as concrete, the base should be coated with a layer of KNAUF Betokontakt primer. This improves adhesion of materials.

    Protective angular profiles are attached to the plaster mixture at the corners of the surface.

    To achieve a smooth support base, install planning profiles on the surface. The mixing paste is applied to the back side of the profile every 30 cm. When mounting the profile on the wall, press it from the center to the edges.

    Mixing the mixture:

  • Pour 18 liters of tap water into a container with a volume of at least 90 liters (it is recommended to use a plastic tank).
  • Into water at room temperature, add 5–7 master shovels of Rotband and thoroughly mix using a plaster mixer. The mass after mixing should not contain lumps – it must be homogeneous. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes, then remix.
  • Applying the mixture:

    Plaster mixture is applied to the wall surface, generously throwing it with a trowel. You can also use a plaster hawk or a wide float.

    Applying and initial leveling should take no more than 25 minutes (the mixture begins to set after this time).

    The thickness of the plaster layer during application should not exceed 30 mm.

    After applying the mixture to the required surface, level it using a ruler.

    IMPORTANT! If you need a thicker layer of plaster, the initial not yet set layer is roughed with a plaster comb to form a swallowtail shape. After the first layer hardens, at least one day after mixing, apply a second layer, gradually thickening the plaster.

    The mixture sets in 45–60 minutes, after which the surface can be leveled with a metal straightedge (use a trapezoidal straightedge). A wide metal spatula can also be used for this stage. Cut off excess mixture from the wall and fill in the voids that formed after applying the plaster to the surface.

    Surface finishing:

  • After the surface dries, it can be covered with ceramic tiles (they are attached after pre-primering the plaster with KNAUF Tiefengrund primer).
  • If you plan to paint the surface, after 20 minutes of application, clean the plaster with a hard sponge or wool scraper in circular motions. The scraper should be thoroughly soaked with water – this will help even out indentations and remove marks left on the plastered surface by the straightedge or ruler. When a matte surface appears, smooth it using a wide spatula or float – a stainless steel scraper. The movements should be confident, with a wide amplitude.
  • A glossy finish is achieved by additional smoothing of the surface with a metal scraper: not less than 3 hours after mixing the mixture and no later than one day after plastering. The surface should be thoroughly moistened and smoothed. There is no need for additional spackling.
  • A decorative textured surface is achieved by rolling the surface with a roller immediately after leveling with the rule. In addition to a textured roller, you can use a forming tool to give the surface any shape or texture. A forming tool can be a trowel, scraper, or hard brush. For surface decoration, Rotband is a universal plaster that allows you to create any texture.
  • IMPORTANT! To accelerate the drying of the plaster layer, it is necessary to ventilate the room frequently. KNAUF Rotband plaster usually needs to dry for 7 days (cement plaster, for comparison, takes 8–10 days to dry). After drying, it is advisable to prime the layer.

    The same method is used for ceiling plastering.
