We looked at what Western landscape designers do in the garden in July and picked the most important tasks. You can start right away this weekend.

Recently we told you what you can plant in July. But planting is not the end of the story: we've made a checklist of important tasks that you shouldn't ignore.

Get rid of weeds

Carefully weed the beds and flower beds and mulch the soil. Weeds won't grow here, and it's also beneficial for the soil: it will be protected from temperature fluctuations and sudden drought. You can read more about this here.

Check fruit trees

In July, fruits on trees are already ripening, and branches become heavy. Check all supports and attachments to ensure they can handle the weight of the fruits.

Collect all fallen fruits and remove rotten ones — they need to be taken off the site and buried deep in the ground. Otherwise, insects living in the rotting fruits will destroy the entire harvest.

Don't miss the harvest

Raspberry and black currant will soon ripen, and the ripe berries will fall quickly. So check the bushes as often as possible and pick everything that is ready. By the way, other types of currant may droop for a long time.

Also don't forget to prune and treat the branches of shrubs after harvesting.

Fertilize the soil and water plants

While the weather doesn't delight us with sunny days, it can change at any moment. Calculate the necessary amount of water for the soil using special calculators (here's one). You can read more about how to water plants properly in our article.

Prune wilted flowers

If the stem is soft and the flower is small, you can pinch it off. But it's better to cut the flowers with pruners to avoid damaging the stems.

Dig up bulbous plants

This should be done in the middle of the month in dry and sunny weather. Sort them by variety, dry them under shelter, and remove the roots. Then sort them into boxes with labels.
