How to avoid mistakes when choosing plastic windows? We explain what to pay attention to together with Rehau specialists.

What is important?

To make the right choice, decide on the profile and glass unit, and also check with the manufacturer about seals and hardware. Let's look at these components in more detail.

Inside the plastic profile, i.e., the window frame, there are air chambers — voids between PVC partitions that accumulate air. The more of them, the warmer and quieter your home will be.

A three-chamber profile is the most common. These constructions are installed on the south side and in courtyards. Is the street noise too loud? A plastic structure with a five-chamber profile will fix the situation.

The width of the profile is directly related to the number of chambers. The optimal size is no less than 60–70 mm with a wall thickness of at least 2.8 mm for the outer wall and 2.5 mm for the inner one.

Glazing Unit

Sealed glass sheets protecting your home from wind, cold, and dust. The standard option is a glazing unit made of three glass panes. If your region has harsh winters, choose models with four or more panes.

They protect against drafts, maintain the seal of the glazing unit, and ensure tight contact between the profile and sash.

The most economical option is rubber. For more expensive windows, silicone seals and rubber-based sealants are used.

You can't cut corners here. Poor quality handles, mounting systems, locks, and other hardware elements are the most common cause of window system failures.
