Wurt House in WORMELDANGE by HVP
The Wurt House is an impressive home designed for a diplomat residing in WORMELDANGE, Luxembourg. Located on a beautiful site among nature, it offers just over 2,000 square feet of modern living spaces designed by HVP.

This project is the home of a Luxembourgish diplomat who is a great lover of art and paintings. The house sits directly on the left bank of the Moselle, at the entrance to the vineyard town and integrated into the vineyards.
It consists of three levels and a renovated attic; however, this can only be understood from the Moselle as part of the building is embedded into the ground due to the slope. The lowest level contains the entrance area, garage and basement — truly disappearing into the ground from three sides. The house is lit only on its southeast facade facing the Moselle, and the client must consider flood risks during severe floods.
The first floor is also partially embedded in the slope and includes a kitchen, dining room and living room, as well as a terrace overlooking the garage toward the Moselle. The second floor accommodates bedrooms and an additional terrace facing the vineyards. A further sleeping area is located in the attic.
Residents of WORMELDANGE quickly gave this house a nickname: 'the praying hand in the vineyard.' This refers to the building’s architectural layout resembling fingers that touch only on the slope side. This approach allowed architects to bring in a large amount of light into the house. Two bands of windows on the roof and façade interrupt the continuous cladding of the building, which otherwise would have been uniform using corten steel.
