Wilson Street, Drawing Room Architecture Project
We present Wilson Street — an impressive home designed by Drawing Room Architecture, located in the heart of Melbourne, Australia. This project is an example of innovative design solutions for a narrow lot with heritage restrictions, where every part of the space is used as efficiently as possible.
The clients have three teenagers and needed an additional bedroom, study, and more storage space. The new study became a second living space, suitable for work or study, or simply relaxation.
The existing building already had a luxury roof, although this seemed like an unconventional solution, it was the only way to accommodate an extra bedroom on a narrow lot with heritage restrictions. To preserve the luxury roof and excellent lighting and height it provides in the main room, the additional bedroom is now located five steps above the adjacent study.
This also allowed the new bedroom to feel slightly more private and provides excellent views of nature in the distance. The rooms were designed with the need to avoid shading neighboring yards, while still ensuring light and views, as well as maximizing storage space.
