Bergheimveien Villa by Skapa as
The Bergheimveien Villa located in Bjerum, Norway is an inspiring example of how existing homes can be transformed into modern and sustainable living spaces. The architects at Skapa as, who executed the renovation, focused on emphasizing the typical mansard form of the Moelven house while transforming the facade and roof materials into cedar wood to create a defined volume reflecting contemporary architecture. The natural surroundings played a key role in the design process, as the plot's location and its elements influenced the organization of interior space, creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors.
One of the most notable additions is the living space actively used by the owners. The materials and design were adapted from the character of the main house, but the lower structures are more open to create a natural hierarchy. The outdoor space and volumes look like a modern cluster site, becoming a natural gathering place for family events. With an emphasis on sustainable measures and solutions, the Bergheimveien Villa highlights the possibilities of existing structures and spaces when they receive a modern interpretation.
The architectural potential inherent in the existing house and structure became the foundation and driving force behind this Moelven house project. The waterfront house was transformed into a spacious and modern family home for those who wanted to create a future-oriented dwelling. To continue and emphasize the typical mansard form of the Moelven house, the main focus was on removing the roof eaves and transforming the facade and roof materials into cedar wood. Hidden gutters and rare transitions create a defined volume reflecting architecture of our time, inspired by everyday homes.
The existing space was transformed and adapted to lifestyle. The plot's location and natural elements were key factors in designing and organizing interior space. Opening the house to a magnificent view, the sense of difference between inside and outside becomes transparent; you experience seasonal changes in nature through light, weather, and seasons from within. An addition to the existing structure is the living space actively used by the owners. The choice of materials and design were adapted from the character of the main house, but structures below are more open to create a natural hierarchy.
The choice of materials and design were adapted from the character of the main house, but structures below are more open to create a natural hierarchy. In interaction between the main house, new addition, plot, outdoor space and volumes, they look like a modern cluster site and have become a natural gathering place for family events. In an era when sustainable measures and solutions must play a decisive role in modern architecture, this renovated house is a commentary on how to use the qualities and values of existing structures and spaces.
