House with Double Internal Courtyard by Charged Voids
The house with a double internal courtyard is a great modern residence designed by Charged Voids in Chandigarh, India. The total living area exceeds 5000 square feet, and the open layout of this project offers plenty of living spaces. Moreover, they are connected to two beautiful internal courtyards.

The house attempts to erase the boundaries between external and internal space of an urban home. The concept of the house demonstrates a transformation of eastern spatial interiors and western aesthetics. It was designed for two brothers, on two separate levels but connected without adverse weather impact.
The dwelling uses the concept of two intersecting axes - a vertical axis running through the plan, which is the central thoroughfare on the first level and visually connects the front to rear enclosing wall of the house, as well as a horizontal axis connecting two green internal courtyards and creating an overview across the width of the plot. At one end of this horizontal axis is the main entrance space to the house. The incoming person along the horizontal axis goes to the vertical one, which provides privacy for first-floor residents. At the same time, visual connection of the staircase is preserved with the house on both levels as it leads to an internal courtyard next to the main entrance where long vertical glass elements run along the staircase.

The main staircase to the first and second floors is located right next to the main entrance, ensuring necessary privacy for first-floor residents. At the same time, visual connection of the staircase is preserved with the house on both levels as it leads to an internal courtyard next to the main entrance where long vertical glass elements run along the staircase.
Clay-based materials palette was used to highlight natural elements in the house. Rough stone and cobble textures were used in many landscape zones, including central and rear courtyards. Extensive use of wood allowed creating the necessary warmth in interiors.
