Rural House by Sala 03 Arquitetura: Modern Living Immersed in Nature
Located in the green surroundings of São Paulo, the Rural House—also known as Casa das Árvores—by Sala 03 Arquitetura redefines modern residential space as a natural extension of nature. The design was created for a couple with a young daughter who moved from the capital to provide a peaceful environment for daily life and cozy weekend retreats for family and friends.
Preserving Trees and Optimizing the Site
The project's name refers to its original state—a 2000 sq. m. site densely overgrown with trees. The architects' main goal was to preserve as many trees as possible while maximizing the functionality of the house. The result is a building's placement that balances privacy and openness, integrating architecture into the forest landscape.
L-Shape Layout for Privacy and Sociability
The residence features an L-shaped configuration, with entertainment and pool areas facing the center of the site, while sleeping rooms face a side garden. This layout clearly separates public and private zones, yet ensures bright lighting for the pool and outdoor relaxation areas throughout the day.
Orientation enhances both privacy and connection: the public section, parallel to the street, is ideal for guests, while the perpendicular private part offers seclusion and views of green gardens.
Smooth Transition Between Inside and Outside
Upon entering the house, guests encounter a sequence of spaces adapted for both daily life and entertaining. The living room and dining area are on one side, while the kitchen is on the other. Glass partitions allow these zones to be joined for events or separated when needed.
The sleeping wing includes five bedrooms arranged along a glass corridor, inspired by Le Corbusier's concept of architectural promenade. This passage forms an outside landscape, allowing natural light to pass through and creating a dynamic interplay of shadows throughout the day.
Color Palette and Earthy Elegance
The facade is made of solid brick with dark accents, enhanced by bronze metal beams. This earthy palette connects the house to its natural surroundings, blending a rustic warm atmosphere with modern elegance. The restrained materials emphasize grace over ostentation, aligning with the house's philosophy of being part of the landscape.
A Home in Harmony with Nature
The Rural House is more than just a home. It's an architectural response to living with nature. The single level, earth-toned materials and careful integration with the site reflect a deep respect for the environment. Balancing rural and modern elements, Sala 03 Arquitetura created a home that is intimate, spacious, and timeless.

Upon entering the house, the living room and dining area are on one side, while the kitchen is on the other. Designed to meet family needs for hospitality and daily life, these spaces can be fully combined or separated by a glass partition, ensuring privacy when needed.
Inspired by Le Corbusier's concept of architectural promenade, the five bedrooms are arranged along a glass corridor perpendicular to the street. This layout adds value to access to the bedrooms and forms an outside landscape, enabling a play of light and shadow within the corridor.
To integrate the house with the landscape, earthy tones were used for facades. Solid brick with a dark tone, enhanced by bronze metal beams, blends rustic and modern aesthetics, creating a unique and refined facade.
