THYTA House: Sustainable Mountain Resort on Lefkada, Greece
Combining Nature and Architecture
THYTA House, designed by LASSA Architects, is a serene family resort nestled among the mountain ranges of Lefkada, Greece. This thoughtfully designed home blends innovative architecture with sustainability, taking into account the picturesque natural environment of the island.
The building form reflects the mountain's curve, with THYTA House harmoniously blending into its surroundings thanks to green roofs and soft tones that allow the structure to blend into the landscape when viewed from the sea.
Innovative Elliptical Design
The architectural centerpiece of THYTA House is an elliptical living room opening onto a private courtyard. This unique layout provides shaded outdoor relaxation zones while offering breathtaking views of the mountains and sky. The green roof with oculi showcases olive trees, creating a harmonious blend of built and natural environments.
The column-free canopy extends the shaded living area, providing an unobstructed view of the Ionian Sea and strengthening the connection between interior and exterior spaces.
Functionality and Sustainability in Harmony
THYTA House adheres to sustainable living principles through its design and material choices.
- Green Roof: Provides thermal insulation, reducing the need for air conditioning during hot summer days.
- Natural Ventilation: Open layout allows cross-ventilation using cool northern winds for evening cooling.
- Native Landscaping: Coastal plants, wild olive trees, and aromatic shrubs create a low-maintenance garden that saves water and offers sensory pleasures.
- Sun Protection: Overhangs shield the facade from direct sunlight, enhancing energy efficiency.
Spaces Designed for Family and Creativity
The house is distributed across two levels, offering diverse functional spaces.
- Upper Level: Includes a family room, bedrooms, and an elliptical terrace with panoramic views of the sea and surrounding greenery.
- Lower Level: Features a creative workshop integrated into stone walls, combining utility and design.
- Outdoor Relaxation Zones: Terraces, a balcony, and a pool create conditions for year-round outdoor living, forming a lifestyle closely connected to nature.
Precise Construction and Material Innovation
The construction of THYTA House used CNC-machined components fabricated in a factory and assembled by LASSA Architects. This method simplified the building process, reduced costs, and accommodated site-specific constraints. The neutral color palette of the structure—blues, grays, and greens—complements the surrounding landscape, ensuring a timeless aesthetic that respects the environment.
