Water House by CIA Design Studio
CIA Design Studio developed the Water House in the new Tam Anh settlement, Vietnam. The main aspect of this design is focused on adapting to all climatic features of the region, determined by the tropical monsoon climate.
The "Water House" is located in the new relocation zone of Tam Anh, Nui Tan, Quang Nam, Vietnam. The region is annually affected by the tropical monsoon climate. This poses a challenge for residents to come up with an idea of a home adapted to all climatic features. Therefore, the clients approached us to bring their desires to life.
With a size of 7×25 meters, the house is designed for a couple and two sons. Functionality includes 3 bedrooms with bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The owners want a house that improves their living conditions. The project started with a rectangular block which we divided into two cubes connected externally and internally by a buffer space—a terrace and a skylight in the center of the house. The main space includes the living and dining room, as well as a quiet area behind the cube where three bedrooms and two bathrooms are located.
The void is placed in the center of the house, serving as a point of balance with nature. Here natural elements appear: trees, natural lighting, wind and rain. We carefully analyzed each aspect of the climate and the sun's orbit to propose solutions for natural lighting, protection from light on the western facade, and a cool breeze flow from the river behind.
Regarding interior design, ideas from local furniture with tubers were used to create new pieces of furniture using the same approach. All sofas, dining tables and beds are made from natural wood. The house is covered with polycarbonate panels and vines that hang down from the roof. This allowed us to reduce solar radiation impact on glass walls. We fully used the lake on one side of the house. Additionally, sliding wooden doors were used to expand the living room and improve its ventilation, as well as create a stunning view of the landscape. After the investment period, the investor was satisfied with our work.
