Stone House: Harmonious Blend of Nature and Modern Design by Crest Architects
Design for Nature and Family
Situated among quiet rural lands near Bangalore, the Stone House is a Vaastu-compliant building that combines cutting-edge architectural solutions with the natural environment. Designed for a family of five, this house stands out with its innovative construction featuring an 18-foot overhang and a total area of 2500 square feet. The house uses natural materials like stone and concrete, carefully selected to harmonize with the tropical landscape, creating a continuous connection between interior and exterior spaces.
Strategic Use of Space and Projections
The house architecture meets both the functional requirements of the client and the characteristics of the site. While the plot size is 6650 square feet, the client's preference to follow the traditional 'Aaya' format limited the first floor to only 2500 square feet. To make maximum use of space, the project includes several projections and strategically placed masses that define different zones while maintaining a sense of openness. The open layout creates a feeling of lightness and spaciousness, with each room connected to nature through large windows and thoughtful placement.
Architectural Style: Rough and Minimalist
The Stone House got its name from the combination of various types of stone and exposed concrete. These materials, chosen for their rough yet elegant textures, offer a modern interpretation of the idea of a house built from the earth itself. The house features hidden light fixtures that provide natural lighting for interior spaces and enhance the connection with seasons and time of day. The open areas around the house are equipped with stone steps and walkways that strengthen the connection between the building and the tropical landscape.
Unique Features: Floating Prayer Room and Metal Staircase
One of the standout features of the Stone House is its floating prayer room, suspended above calm water. It's enclosed within a concrete wall and illuminated by natural light from above, creating a cozy atmosphere for spiritual reflection. A sliding partition between the prayer room and formal guest lounge provides flexibility, allowing spaces to be used as needed without compromising the home's structure.
Another notable feature is the central metal staircase protruding from a suspended concrete wall. This staircase serves not only as the main connection between levels but also acts as a sculptural accent. The open design of the staircase reinforces the open layout, adding a sense of spaciousness and visual dynamics.
Private Zones with Panoramic Views
On the first floor, private zones are located in three bedrooms, each opening onto a private balcony with a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. This design ensures privacy while also allowing residents to feel part of nature. The glass partition in the master bedroom allows visibility into the dining area and provides ample natural light.
The guest room with an overhang, styled in minimalist concrete aesthetics, functions as a canopy above the parking area below. The son's bedroom rises above the terrace and offers a view of the water. These innovative architectural solutions provide a sense of connection with nature in every space, making each moment in the house special and dynamic.
Dynamic Lifestyle
The Stone House is more than just a place to live; it's a space designed to encourage curiosity and interaction with the surrounding environment. From the floating prayer room to open concrete elements and panoramic views from every bedroom, the house promotes a dynamic lifestyle that constantly changes with shifting light and seasons. It is a true testament to how modern design can harmonize with nature, offering a functional family home and a sanctuary for contemplation and rest.
