Elegant Farmhouse Design by Villamar Design

The elegant farmhouse designed by Villamar Design in Sanik, British Columbia, Canada is a perfect example of a modern farmhouse created for a young family. Located on an area of 4,495 square feet, the design is elegant, simple and practical. The site was chosen after a thorough visit and analysis of the terrain, its topography and annual conditions.

The house is positioned on the back slope's peak, offering beautiful valley views and designed with privacy, flood prevention and an attractive entrance in mind. It includes a covered porch, garage with outdoor access, and several French doors opening to the rear deck and fire pit area. The home features a well-equipped bathroom connected to a large walk-in closet, as well as a mudroom and laundry room connecting the garage with the main house, which also contains a pantry and a separate office area near the kitchen.

This home is an excellent example of collaboration between rooms and spaces, designed to bring life and relaxation into the energy of a young family.

A young family who purchased this farm in 2019 approached us for designing and building a new home. The layout of the house was intended to be a simple, elegant home for a large lot. They requested a modern farmhouse suitable for raising children, living in, working from, and relaxing.

Our design process always includes visiting the site as one of the initial steps. After meeting with the family on-site and studying the topography, along with understanding land conditions and its annual characteristics, we selected placing the house on the peak of the back slope. It is located away from the street and has an attractive entrance. This part of the lot drains well and is not prone to flooding. It's private, yet offers beautiful valley views.

The entrance to the house features an elegant covered porch that allows free interaction with visitors when entering and exiting the home. The garage faces the street but looks more like part of the house until you get closer; when at the entrance, you can see windows above the garage which houses a legal secondary structure on the lot. The mudroom and laundry room connects the garage with the main house, also containing a pantry and a separate office area near the kitchen.

The kitchen, dining room, and living room feature several French doors leading to the rear deck and fire pit area. Both sides of the deck have covered balconies that also serve as balconies for some bedrooms on the upper floor. Upstairs, beyond the stairs is a flexible space closed off by a bar door used as a play area, while next to it behind the beautiful main bedroom (with panoramic views) is a well-equipped bathroom connected to a large walk-in closet.

This home represents an excellent collaboration between rooms and spaces, designed to bring life and relaxation into the energy of a young family. There is space for everyone including guests and visitors; and as time progresses, future residents will not be forced to make any changes. Whatever project you would like to create next, we would love to talk with you about how best to bring it into reality.
