Probably among us are many people who regularly dream about housing, whether we're looking for a new apartment or not. Most of us usually have a list of priorities in mind, from the desired size of the future home to balcony and ceiling height. What do we consider most important when looking for a new home?

Priority: Nature and Operating Costs

DETAILS WE WANT IN A HOME THAT CAN INCREASE YOUR HOME'S VALUEPinterest

Survey results are especially relevant in these times when priorities and basic benchmarks constantly change. The outcome reflects the state of society, at least from the perspective of peaceful surroundings and high operating costs being on the priority list.

Many people are striving to be closer to nature, which is a reasonable response to the pandemic. Then, wanting to reduce operating costs is a direct consequence of the current economic situation.

Storage Solutions at the Top

Storage options are also highly valued. The survey shows that 75 percent of Swedes prefer well-planned storage, among the age group 36–55 years old — 82 percent place reliable storage solutions at the top of their list. For the youngest target group, 18–35 years old, the figure is 76 percent compared to the oldest age group 56–79 years old, where it is 66 percent. Much points to a connection with the trend of compact living and smaller housing solutions.

Other items on the priority list include bedrooms for all family members (66 percent), updated bathroom (59 percent) and updated kitchen (52 percent). Further down the list we find garage (43 percent), fireplace or stove (30 percent) and a desired feature during the pandemic — home office (27 percent). It is also important to have space or access to a gym or other training facility in the home, with 11 percent.
