This unusual bathroom, measuring just 5 square meters, is located in an apartment in one of Moscow’s Stalin-era buildings. Originally, this space housed a kitchen, with only the window remaining as a subtle reminder of its past function — a detail not typical but highly appropriate from a design perspective.

The room adjoins the owners’ bedroom, separated only by a translucent glass partition.

Client

The designer created this interior for her friends — a young married couple. They wanted the bathroom to feel light, spacious, and modern. To meet their expectations, the designer aimed to maximize every available centimeter of space.

Materials

To achieve the desired lightness, the designer chose simple and intuitive materials: concrete-effect plaster, glass, mirrors, and composites. It was the striking combination of these elements that created the intended effect — making the space appear larger.

Color and Lighting

The bathroom is coordinated in a unified color scheme with the adjacent bedroom. Natural lighting plays a key role in this interior. Light from the window is amplified by reflections in mirrors and glossy surfaces.

Sanitary Fixtures and Accessories

The designer selected Duravit sanitary ware and Patricia Urquiola mixers. The sink was custom-designed by the author and made from Corian material.

Challenges

Surprisingly, there were no major difficulties during this project. The clients approved the design immediately, and the result did not disappoint them.
