PB House | D Compose Architect | Chiang Rai, Thailand
Modern minimalist sanatorium combining family, nature and design
Located in a peaceful setting Chiang Rai, the PB House by architect D Compose Architect redefines modern Thai living through a seamless blend of architecture, light and landscape. The design is created for a multi-generational family, celebrating openness, connection and harmony with nature while ensuring privacy and comfort for every family member.
The essence of the design lies in its clarity and proportionality — where every spatial movement, material and view work in balance to create a calm yet luxurious environment tailored for tropical living.
Architecture in dialogue with climate and context
Oriented to local ecological conditions, D Compose Architect designed PB House around principles of passive cooling and human-centered spatial flow. The southern facade side, exposed to strong sunlight, was carefully designed with a top overhang that shades the lower level, protecting the entrance terrace and reducing daytime heating.
This architectural strategy not only enhances comfort but also creates an impressive visual compositional effect, highlighting depth and rhythm in the exterior. Beneath this overhang is a two-story entrance hall, welcoming residents with natural light from the skylight above — instantly setting the tone of openness that defines the entire house.
High ceiling: vertical heart of family life
At the center of the design is a high-ceiling hall, a spacious two-story space connecting the living room and dining area on the first floor with the bedrooms and corridor above. Serving as an emotional and spatial core of the home, it facilitates visual and verbal communication among family members across generations.
Around this central volume, architects placed personal and semi-private zones of the home:
First floor: common spaces for dinners, guests and relaxation.
Upper level: family bedrooms, office and quiet zones with views into the hall.
This arrangement allows constant interaction and visibility, maintaining a balance between openness and privacy.
Serene courtyard, reinforced by water and greenery
The central courtyard becomes the spiritual heart of the house. A rectangular pond with koi fish flows from the front wall inward, crossing the boundary between interior and exterior spaces. At its center rises a single tree, providing shade, reflection and calming sounds of water that echo through the living room and dining area.
A floating partition above the pond softly separates the courtyard from main spaces, preserving privacy without severing connection. The waterfall enhances the tranquil atmosphere, transforming the courtyard into a natural breath of the house.
Minimalist interiors with soft curves and luxurious accents
Inside, the atmosphere shifts from bold geometric forms to elegant minimalism. Smooth white walls, light stone and warm wood create a canvas of serenity enhanced by curved edges and rounded corners, which soften the sharp lines of the exterior.
The result is a home that feels both modern and timeless, elegant yet deeply personal. Every material and detail — whether a curved wall, the shadow of a line or shimmering light on water — contributes to a sense of tactile calm.
Sustainable comfort and natural connection
Beyond its visual elegance, PB House embodies sustainable living. The design maximizes natural ventilation and daylight, reducing reliance on artificial systems. Shaded orientation, skylights and ponds in the courtyard enhance thermal comfort year-round, while carefully selected local materials minimize environmental impact.
Prioritizing context-sensitive design, passive strategies and natural materials, D Compose Architect created a home that is just as environmentally responsible as it is emotionally fulfilling.
A new expression of Thai minimalism
PB House represents a new chapter in Thai residential architecture — a minimalist sanctuary where modern life harmonizes with the rhythms of nature.
Through the interplay of light, water and space D Compose Architect created a dwelling that transcends style, becoming a portrait of world, family and eternal design integrity.
