Jandaya House by Sala 03 Arquitetura: Modern Summer Retreat in Rural São Paulo
In the undulating landscapes of São Paulo, the Jandaya House by Sala 03 Arquitetura redefines a summer retreat as a home of restrained luxury and full privacy. Designed for a family of three — a doctor, a fashion designer, and their teenage daughter — the residence reflects their desire for a contemporary yet modest sanctuary rising above the ground and blending into the landscape.
Architecture Based on Privacy and Functionality
Located on a 3040 square meter plot, the house presents a linear volume, with its main openings facing the pool and panoramic views. The façade is deliberately understated, ensuring privacy while showcasing a modern, functional character.
The architects employed a central corridor, which serves as both a connecting axis and a dynamic exhibition space. Rooms open perpendicularly, alternating closed volumes with open internal courtyards where vegetation integrates with architecture. This rhythm of built and open spaces creates intimacy as well as spaciousness throughout the house.
Elevation for Comfort and Efficiency
One defining feature is the elevated floor system, which allows infrastructure to be placed underneath for easy maintenance and improves thermal comfort through airflow regulation. The combination of metal framework and brick masonry ensures strength, while the lightweight roof with thermoplastic coating enhances energy efficiency. The external cladding of concrete slabs emphasizes the building's linear and harmonious composition.
Pool with Horizontal Views
The pool is a central element extending to the slope of the terrain with a boundary edge of infinity, merging water with horizon. Designed as a multifunctional aquatic sanctuary, it includes a sauna, a small relaxation zone and a running track, making it the centerpiece of entertainment and relaxation.
Interior: Modern with Boho Style
Inside, the house combines modern minimalism with boho eclecticism. Clean lines and neutral base come alive through carefully selected items — many acquired at flea markets, auctions, and bazaars. Unique paintings, custom furniture, and global decorative finds bring personality and warmth to the interior.
Social areas such as a combined living room and dining area open into a winter garden, while the kitchen expands through fully folding partitions. The straw ceiling detail softens modern lines, enhancing the relaxed atmosphere of the home.
The master bedroom includes a relaxation area and private garden, blending comfort with nature. On the opposite side of the building are entertainment zones such as TV rooms, a gym and a sauna with a pool view, offering additional levels of leisure.
A Sanctuary for the Family
More than just a vacation home, the Jandaya House is a meticulously planned environment where architecture, landscape and lifestyle intertwine. It balances the family's need for privacy with openness to nature, offering spaces for solitude and gathering. Blending functionality, refined modesty, and personal character, Sala 03 Arquitetura created a modern Brazilian sanctuary that is both timeless and personal.
