With the arrival of cold season, our heating bills usually increase.

However, there are many simple solutions that can help you avoid spending extra money on gas heating.

Below are our main tips to save energy and money!

Is Your Radiator Wasting Energy (and Money)?

Electric Radiators

If possible, consider switching to electric radiators. Electric radiators do not use gas, as the energy for their operation is taken directly from the wall they are attached to and converted into heat.

Although the transition itself may be expensive, it will likely help you save money in the long run.

Sites like Trade Radiators sell electric radiators at very reasonable prices.

Wear Layers

If you feel cold at home, think about what you are wearing. Aren't you barefoot and in a t-shirt in the middle of December?

Instead of raising the indoor temperature, put on a sweater and thick socks. Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the temperature.

Use Hot Bottles

If your bedroom is cold at night, instead of increasing the heater's temperature, place a hot bottle in bed.

This will keep you and your bed warm without increasing heating costs.

Consider Insulation

There are many types of insulation, such as attics, floors, and walls. Insulation helps retain heat in the house and keeps it warmer for a longer time.

Again, although this may be quite an expensive solution in the short term, it will likely help you save significantly on heating bills in the long run.

Close Doors

If you have a radiator on, close the doors! Don't let heat escape into other parts of the house that don't need good heating. Instead, keep doors closed to retain heat inside.

Block Drafts

If you have a real stone fireplace, much heat can escape through the chimney. However, there are devices called chimney bags that you can buy and use to prevent this.

Turn Off Unused Radiators

If there is a room that you rarely use but still have the radiator on, turn it off!

No need to keep all radiators in the house turned on when it's cold. Leave them only in rooms where you are.

Smart Meter

Invest in a smart meter.

This may not necessarily help you save money, but it will give you an idea of how much energy you are using and allow you to determine where and how you can reduce consumption.

Regularly Check Radiators

Make sure your radiators are regularly checked by professionals. If they aren't working at full capacity, you will be wasting energy and money on a radiator that isn't doing its job.

Do this in summer — you don't want to wait until winter to discover a broken radiator!

We hope these quick solutions help you better understand how to save energy and money on home heating.
