How to Connect an External Faucet with a Hose
External sinks provide great comfort for outdoor use. The likelihood of installing an external sink is high if you spend a lot of time outside the house.
An external sink installed outdoors is designed to connect directly to a garden hose faucet, and you can still use a hose.
There are several advantages when connecting an external sink to a hose. It can function as both a hose holder and storage unit. Therefore, knowing how to assemble an external sink is very important.
A large external sink can hold water that you can use for drying clothes, wetting brushes, and cleaning hands or sleeves after working outdoors.
An ideal water source for many homes is the kitchen or bathroom, as they do not have an external drain hole for connecting an external sink. If there is no outdoor water source, you need to connect a hose to the external sink.
This will require performing multiple plumbing tasks, but don't worry because you won't spend much money and can do it without the help of a plumber.

Follow the installation instructions for a sink connected via hose.
10 Steps to Connect an External Sink with a Hose
Step 1: Prepare Materials
Before buying all the necessary materials, you must ensure that you are getting the correct faucet. Therefore, always check the type of faucet for both indoor and outdoor sinks.
This is very important so you know which adapter type best suits your sink. The materials you should buy at the store:
- Garden hose
- Indoor sink adapter
- Outdoor sink adapter
- Teflon tape (as needed)
- Wrenches/adjustable wrenches (as needed)
Step 2: Remove the Aerator
The first thing you need to do is remove the aerator. You can find it at the top of the faucet. To remove it, turn counterclockwise. You can use a wrench or pliers if you cannot remove it by hand.
The most important part of this step is to ensure that the aerator stays together with its components: rubber gasket, fine mesh screen, and housing.
Step 3: Screw the Faucet Adapter
After successfully removing the aerator, screw the faucet adapter into the faucet hole. Make sure you correctly place the adapter gasket. This should be a rubber or vinyl gasket to prevent leaks, and you must tighten it securely.
Step 4: Connect the Hose
Next, you need to connect the garden hose to the faucet adapter installed at the end of the faucet. To do this, simply screw one end of the garden hose to the faucet adapter. If you bought an adapter with a clamp, simply pull the other part of the adapter that connects to the hose and insert it into the section connecting to the faucet tip.
Step 5: Proceed to External Sink
Now that you have fully connected the garden hose to a sink in the kitchen or bathroom, the next step is the external sink. Bring the other end of the hose to where the external sink will be installed.
Step 6: Connect Adapter to External Sink
The next thing you need to do is connect the external sink to the hose adapter. You will see a tube coming out from the faucet on the side or under the sink. This is exactly where you need to connect the hose.
For direct connection with the hose, use an adapter that has standard threading on one end and a male part of the hose for direct screwing.
Step 7: Attach Sealing Gasket to Hose
As in step 3, the adapter must be attached to the other end of the hose. Regardless of the type of adapter, the most important thing is to ensure it is tightened securely to prevent leaks or sudden water bursts. Also, remember that before screwing the adapter onto the hose, you need to put on a rubber gasket.
Step 8: Connect Hose to External Sink
This step requires properly tightening the adapter attached to the hose into the pipe hole under the sink. Ensure you tighten it securely so no other problems arise in the future.
Step 9: Test Operation
Now that your external sink is connected to the garden hose, check if it works correctly. To do this, turn on water from both the kitchen faucet and the external sink faucet. Carefully inspect the hose and adapters for leaks. If found, unscrew the connection point and tighten it securely using Teflon tape.
Step 10: Store After Use
Now that your external sink with hose connection is ready for use, turn off the water from both kitchen and bathroom faucets and open the utility sink faucet to drain the water.
When all the water is completely drained, remove the hose connected to either the kitchen or bathroom faucet and store it in a safe place under the utility sink.
Conclusion
It is very important to connect an external sink with a hose because it provides more comfort. Connecting the hose to the sink is very simple and avoids having to run inside the house to wash your hands. It also saves time and effort in finding a plumber for connecting water supply to the utility sink.
However, if this is your first time installing an external sink, you need to have all the necessary materials. You can always check what's available at home and buy any missing items from the store.
