How to Choose a Children's Pool
PinterestChild's Age
The child's age is the main reference point that will help you choose the ideal model and size of a children's pool.
Children older than six years can play in the water, but for them a pool should be small. Therefore, the most recommended model in this age range, up to approximately one year old, is a 50-liter inflatable children's pool.
From one year of age and beyond, larger models with a volume from 100 to 300 liters can be used, also inflatable. At this stage, you can begin to consider some accessories to make play more fun — for example, small mats, splashes and small slides.
From two years of age onwards, 500–1000-liter pools guarantee fun with other children since such models are designed for 5–7 kids. Ground-level pools, such as those made of fiberglass, are suitable for children older than 6 years and, even so, under adult supervision. Some ground-level pools are adapted for small children; in this case, it is important to check that the pool depth matches the child's size — i.e., they should be able to stand.
Installation Location
Each type of space is suitable for a specific pool. If you live at home and have a large yard, ground-level pools may be an excellent option since they support child development.
Those who live in apartments or houses without yards can still rely on compact and portable children's pools, such as frame or inflatable models.
Functionality and Needs
Another important consideration is how you plan to use the children's pool.
Inflatable pools, for example, are perfect for those who travel frequently or move around a lot since they're easy to transport from one place to another. This type of pool also allows installation in unusual places, such as inside a bathroom, replacing the bathtub.
Budget
It might seem obvious, but it's always important to consider the budget you're willing to spend on purchasing and/or installing a pool.
Inflatable and frame models are the cheapest, though they don't always accompany children for long and may require frequent replacement. This isn't the case with ground-level pools, though they are more expensive and need periodic maintenance, which also consumes financial resources.
Safety and Maintenance of a Children's Pool
There is never too much attention to safety when using pools with children. And there shouldn't be.
The risk of drowning and other injuries, such as falls, are responsible for countless deaths worldwide.
Here are several tips to ensure children have fun and stay safe in the pool.
PinterestPool Access Control
Children should never have access to the pool alone, even if it's a small one. Isolate the area around the pool when not in use or install fences that prevent children from entering.
Safety
Use equipment that helps the child and ensures greater safety near and inside the pool, especially in larger models such as fiberglass. Install ladders for easy entry and exit, place non-slip strips on the floor around the pool, and always advise children to use flotation devices such as hand floats or noodles.
It's also possible to install a safety alarm that activates when someone approaches the pool when it is not in use — this is very important for those with ground-level pools.
Non-Slip Surface
The floor around the pool should be non-slip to prevent falls and slipping. A great option is porous stone.
Clean Water
Maintaining clean pool water is another important safety and hygiene measure.
Ground-level pools require regular maintenance to ensure the water is always suitable for swimming.
In frame and inflatable pools, it's recommended to add 60 ml of bleach per 1000 liters of water after use. This way, the water stays fresh longer and you won't lose it all night.
Always Supervise
One moment of negligence is enough for something bad to happen. Therefore, children should always be under adult supervision when in the pool.
