Four cylindrical towers rise from piles, creating this cozy retreat among dense trees in the suburbs of Kapstadt (Südafrika), designed by the local studio Malan Vorster — Architecture Interior Design.
A lightweight latticed shell made of vertical cedar slats covers the building on all sides, leaving large gaps around windows and becoming denser in other areas to ensure privacy for the home's inhabitants.
Inside, four structural columns mark the center of each rounded volume. These supports, as well as other details, are made from laser-cut sheet steel, to which wooden decking with copper elements is attached.
The architects left all materials untreated with the intention that they would be naturally affected by weather and time, gradually becoming indistinguishable from the surrounding landscape.
The main living room occupies the first floor of the house, with its semi-circular projections accommodating various functions including a patio, dining niche, and main staircase.
The owner's bedroom located on the second floor features a large opening, closed only by a low glass balustrade offering views over the green expanses below.
